# Instant Messages/Community Design Principles

Genuine social relationships are formed when individuals with consensus engage in social interactions. One cannot befriend someone without reaching consensus. Socrates supports the use of NFT avatars, where holding similar NFTs represents a shared consensus among individuals. People with the same NFTs join a Socrates group, thereby forming consensus-based social relationships.

On Socrates, engaging in debate and voting on the same individuals or matters automatically facilitates the formation of friendships, creating communities. Debate creates relationships on a deeper, intellectual level, as users engage with each other's thought processes and cognitive awareness. Based on the other person's perspectives, users can decide who to establish a social relationship with.
